Mini-Bio of The Band
Divided Highway is a band
that combines the musical talents of staff at
Algonquin
College from Ottawa, Ontario.
Comprised of teachers and managers
at the school, the band also often plays at many of the school's social
functions and fundraisers, such as the annual United Way campaign.
David, Dave and Wayne, the
"backbone" of the band, have been playing together for a few years. A
series of drummers ensued until Mike joined the fold. All four work at the
college.
Together, the band formed a
unique sound based on a diverse blend of musical tastes and backgrounds,
which consist of country, blues, pop, rock and classical.
Therefore, since the
band combines such differing and divergent (and often opposing) musical
tastes, giving it its strength and unique style, it gave rise to the term
"Divided" in its name, similar to traffic moving in opposite directions.
Tech Rocks Alumni
Tech Rocks, an
annual "Battle of the Bands" assembling high tech's musically inclined
from Ottawa, is regularly hosted in June at the Corel Center's
Hard Rock Cafe.
While the band did not win last
year, it was a frontrunner. Says guitarist David Bray, "the goal was to
have fun."
More importantly, since the band
consists of employees at
Algonquin
College, a leading school of technology, the event is close to the
band's heart as proceeds from the event are targeted to support human
resource development through projects and programs, and will support the
development and expansion of Ottawa s technology talent pool.
